Priory have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Data Protection Officer to join our Legal and Data Protection. As the Associate Data Protection Officer you will report to the Group Data Protection Officer & Solicitor and work closely with sites and other operational colleagues. 

This role is based in London, and offers hybrid and remote working.

Job Advert Role Description

Key responsibilities are: 

• Being one of two primary day-to-day contacts for all subject access requests, including employee subject access requests and third party requests for data, ensuring that all requests for information are properly handled and in accordance with the legal framework
• Being one of two primary day-to-day contacts for the business to advise on potential complaints and breaches, ensuring that all breaches are notified and investigated in accordance with the legal framework
• Development and maintenance of a data protection knowledge base for the business and creating training material for internal staff members. 
• Administration, development and maintenance of central logs relating to requests for personal data, data breaches and ICO complaints. 
• Carrying out internal GDPR audits and site inspections to ensure each site is complying with its legal requirement 
• Develop an understanding of operational processes and controls, and support in assessing their effectiveness in mitigating data protection risks faced by the Group

Key Tasks:

• Assist with ensuring organisational compliance, and conformance with Data Protection Principles and highlight key risk areas 
• Process, co-ordinate and respond to all requests for information (Subject access requests, requests from external organisations, regulatory authorities etc)
• Assist with investigations into complaints about breaches of data protection and undertake reporting / remedial action as required. Maintain a log of all incidents and remedial recommendations and actions.
• Provide comprehensive reports on the business’s compliance with the Data Protection Act and related provisions
• Promote data protection awareness throughout the business by providing training and written procedures that are widely disseminated and made available to all staff
• Provide advice and guidance to the business on the document retention policy, storage requirements and managing the relationship with the off-site archiving and storage provider
• Responsible for the maintenance of records required to demonstrate data protection compliance.
• Conduct internal compliance audits
• Support the Group Data Protection Officer with other data protection matters. 

What we want from an Associate Data Protection Officer:

• At least two years` experience in a data protection role handling and responding to a high number of subject access requests and requests from third parties (regulatory authorities, police forces, insurance companies etc.)
• Team player
• Great communication skills both written and verbal 
• Strong knowledge of applicable Data Protection laws
• Keen eye for detail 
• Ability to handle confidential information
• Good working knowledge of common IT systems, processes and information security practices
• Experience dealing with multiple stakeholders 
• Broad understanding of applicable data protection laws and regulations
• Be able to work independently
