We are looking for a qualified RMN or RNLD to join our team on Maple as a Deputy Ward manager.

The Acute service at Cheadle is a 29-bedded service made up of two separate units: Maple and Alder. Both are mixed sex units providing care for adults aged 18 and over. The units operate a 24-hour admission service supporting local NHS trusts and Clinical Commissioning Groups, taking both informal and formal patients.

The post is situated on the Maple ward, a 15 bed Unit that provides a high quality of care to mixed informal and formal patients experiencing an acute phase of illness. The team work to support patients in crisis through offering therapeutic engagement throughout their stay.

The units provide assessment and treatment for acute mental health conditions such as Depression, Anxiety, Schizophrenia, Bi-polar Disorder, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder and Personality Disorders. The ethos of the units is to provide support in times of crisis and to offer therapeutic engagement during the inpatient stay.

The teams consist of a Consultant Psychiatrist, Speciality Doctor, Clinical Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Registered Mental Health Nurses and experienced Healthcare Assistants who form the Multidisciplinary teams. Their approach is to work closely with stakeholders and commissioning bodies to achieve minimum lengths of stay for patients through effective discharge planning. Appropriate care pathways are identified early on in admission to ensure smooth transition back into the community. The service also works closely with the PICU and rehabilitation units on site allowing patients a pathway of care suitable to their needs.

The role includes:   

•           Assisting the Ward Manager in providing day to day management and supervision of the ward.
•           Assisting the Ward manager in providing management and supervision of a team of registered and unregistered staff.
•           Implementing best practice across the ward.
•           Support changes within the service
•           Responsible for the clinical direction of the service
•           Support the delivery of personalised care and contribute to service improvement.
