Set in the leafy suburb of Edgbaston, close to Birmingham City Centre, Priory Hospital Woodbourne is conveniently located for access to the West Midlands motorway network and with very good local public transport links.

 

The hospital provides a diverse range of inpatient services, including acute care for adults aged 18 – 25, psychiatric intensive care for adults aged 18 -65 years, Child and Adolescent Mental Health, specialist Eating Disorder (including day care) and private acute and addictions treatment programmes. Our multi-disciplinary teams deliver personalised treatment programmes to our patients and have established an excellent reputation for providing the highest standards of care.

Job Advert Role Description

Working alongside Occupational Therapist to plan, facilitate and evaluate group and individual Occupational Therapy Interventions. The individual should be passionate about recovery and motivated to engage with young adults to support them through their journey.

The role is a permanent 37.5 hours per week and covers minimum of one evening. The hours are worked over Monday-Friday.

Our Occupational Therapy Assistant role involves:

 

• Using interpersonal skills to develop rapport and engagement with patients in order to encourage participation in activities.

• Planning and facilitating a range of individual and group activities as part of the unit therapeutic programme as directed by the Occupational Therapist.

• Following initial assessment by the trained OT staff to carry out planned individual and group interventions aimed at the maintenance and development of patients daily living skills.

• Initiating and organising a variety of leisure, social and creative activities as directed by the trained OT.

• Escorting patients with the appropriate leave status to access community resources in accordance with the ward leave policy and procedures.

• Working in partnership with the patient to access a range of activities and services in order to maintain their independence and promote healthy lifestyle choices.

• Attending handover, patient review and MDT meetings in order to share information regarding the progress of patients and to ensure effective communication.

• Promoting a positive patient experience by proactive listening and being responsive to issues raised by patients.

• Behaving in a manner towards patients which demonstrates empathy, respect and compassion and ensures patient dignity.

• Conducting oneself at all times in a professional manner towards patients, carers, colleagues and other agencies.

• Observing and reporting to trained staff any changes which may indicate an alteration in the general well-being and safety of a patient. As part of relational security on the ward, this may include observations around the service user’s presentation, behaviour, mood and verbal content.
