Lakeside View is a small site within the heart of Fibbersley Nature Reserve, Willenhall. It comprises of the following three wards: 

Finch ward – 12 bed male acute ward
Robin ward – 8 bed male acute ward
Swan ward – 8 bed female acute ward

At Lakeside View, we pride ourselves on our family values and treating each other with respect, valuing contributions and a real team effort for improving patient experience. 

Most of our patients are with us for a short term acute admission which supports them to be discharged back into the community and our average length of stay is about four weeks. Our multi-disciplinary team comprises of a diverse group of disciplines including nurses, support workers, doctors, therapists and therapy assistants as well as our administrative, management and support service teams.

The Job Opportunity - Expert By Experience

A new volunteering position has been introduced at Lakeside View which is the role of “Expert by Experience”. This new and exciting role aims to support participation and engagement by being the voice person for our existing patients on our wards and working alongside our Ward Managers and Senior Management Team to improve our service in a way that is meaningful for those who use our service. 

This role is suitable for an individual who has a lived experience of mental health concerns (within the last three years) or experience caring for others who use mental health services. 

As this is a new role, we anticipate that hours required will be a minimum of 16 hours per month however this will be flexible in terms of days and may increase as the successful candidate embraces the role.

The role requires attendance at key meetings, interviews, gathering feedback from patients etc which will require flexibility and forward planning for the month ahead with your line manager. 

Key Responsibilities 
 Working directly with patients who use our service as well as their families/carers to gather feedback and support us in shaping our services
 Feeding back your findings to our Participation & Engagement Leads and our Senior Management Team so that improvements can be made to our services
 Identifying and developing new ways of receiving and presenting feedback
 Attending key meetings such as Clinical Governance and completing Quality Walk Round audits on a monthly basis
 Being involved in audits within the hospital such as environmental audits and developing action plans following audits and inspections
 Provided expert opinions and being consulted in any upcoming changes/plans for our services
 You may be asked to share your experiences of being in hospital or caring for someone during staff training for example, speaking about previous experiences of physical intervention in our staff PMVA training
 Being involved in our recruitment process by being a part of the interview panel and developing interview questions
 Liaising with staff from various professional backgrounds and also to observe how the service is currently functioning
 Escalate concerns appropriately regarding patients wellbeing, safeguarding and incidents in a timely manner
 Contribute towards your own continued professional development via training and supervision
 Adhere to Priory Group policies and protocols

Qualities Required:
 Positive attitude and commitment to change and improving the service
 Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
 Being confident in speaking in groups and to our patients/families and carers on a frequent basis
 Being open regarding your past experiences
 Maintaining good punctuality and attendance
 Engagement with our occupational health team in regards to your current mental wellbeing, support required at work and consent to share information with your community team if required
