Job Advert Role Description

We require a highly motivated Registered Mental Health Nurse with experience of managing Mental Health needs of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

You will need to liaise with our internal multi-disciplinary team in order to establish a complete picture of the individual needs of each child and will be responsible for communicating this information to the relevant authorities, such as CAMHS, in order to ensure the highest level of care is given to our young people. You will also need to deliver training to staff, and support them in enabling our young people to access education, work experience and live their lives to the full.

We have approximately 40 children and young people attending Oliver House which is an independent autism specific day school and residential homes for children aged 6 to 19 who have autistic spectrum disorders and associated complex learning needs and challenging behaviour.

The role will include health promotion, delivering sex education programmes, and providing emotional support to our young people.

Candidates should be;

  • Patient, sociable and empathetic, in order to establish good relationships with our young people based on confidence, trust, understanding and mutual respect
  • Prepared to deal with challenging behaviour which may be exhibited by a young person at any time for any number of reasons
  • Assertive and able to advocate for our young people.

Qualifications

  • Registered nurse with a current NMC pin.
