We require a skilled leader who can demonstrate substantial experience of working in a senior leadership role in a setting with students who have Autism.  Our new Vice Principal must be prepared to work hard and lead the committed team through a period of change, improvement and development.

The successful candidate will have a range of qualities and skills that will enable them to work proactively using their own initiative, as part of an experienced leadership team and under the direction of the Principal and Operations Director.

The position of Vice Principal of the college would also include some management oversight of the residential homes associated with the college, these are CQC registered homes.

We are looking for a leader who:

  • Places high quality outcomes at the heart of everything in the College and associated homes
  • Has a proven background in leadership of specialist education provision
  • Has a management or leadership qualification or evidence of further development and/or study
  • Is committed to quality improvements and is adept at using a range of methods to monitor and review success across all aspects of the college and homes
  • Is confident with legislation and policy on Safeguarding Children and Safeguarding Adults
  • Understands the importance of providing flexible and personalised packages to meet the needs of every student
  • Has successful experience of working in partnership with local authorities, parents and other stakeholders
  • Is experienced in managing staff and challenging them to achieve the highest quality
  • Has a good understanding of autism including barriers to learning and a sound knowledge of what drives behaviours.

Skills Required

  • Good organisation skills, an ability to manage your own time and work to deadlines
  • Good literacy skills, written communication skills and an ability to write reports for a range of audiences
  • Sound working knowledge of technology, proficient in using a range of applications including the Microsoft suite
  • Strong understanding of confidentiality and GDPR for both staff and students
  • Confident interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to support and lead a team as you will be involved in the day to day management of staff, staffing rotas and addressing any identified concerns or problems both informally and formally when required
  • Strong theoretical and working understanding of autism, learning disability and the functions of behaviour
  • Experienced in working alongside families and a range of professionals and be able to lead meetings as appropriate.
  • Act as a deputy designated safeguarding officer for the college and will engage in relevant training to support this.

As Vice Principal you will be expected to lead the college in the absence of the Principal. You will assist the Principal in the smooth running of the college including the management of health and safety, staff training, risk assessment, regulatory checks and inspections, recruitment, induction and recording and reporting in line with company policy.  You will be able to create care plans as part of a multi-disciplinary team, monitor their implementation and undertake regular reviews.  

The successful candidate must be prepared to access training as relevant to the role and take ownership of their own professional development.

Some of the students live in one of our eight residential homes in the local community. Individual College programmes of day or residential  support are available as either 38 of 52 week placements.
