Rugeley School is an independent day school with associated residencies for children with Autism from the age of 5-19 years.  Our school, which opened in May 2000, stands at the forefront in the education of children with Autism.

We require a Maintenance Assistant to provide an efficient and effective maintenance service to both residencies and the school. To ensure work is undertaken both internally and with external contractors. 

To manage external contractors whilst on site ensuring work completed is to a high standard and in a timely manner. 

Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Painting and decorating, repairing broken items such as door handles, lighting, kitchen cupboards, some woodwork, boarding, minor plumbing and electrical work.
  • Calling out external contractors for work that cannot be completed internally, assessing the urgency of call outs to determine the seriousness and health and safety ramifications.
  • Transport duties such as fleet checks and booking these in for service.
  • Record keeping for internal and external repairs, ensuring issues are logged on the internal computer systems, therefore a level of computer literacy is desirable. 
  • You will be expected to keep up to date with routine maintenance checks ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. 
  • Liaising with contractors to ensure certifications are up to date and accurate and to evidence all compliance for audits.
  • You will be required to cover any call outs, out of hours, on a rota basis. Depending upon the site call outs may start from either 4pm or 5pm until 9am.  Call outs will also be expected to cover weekends. You will be provided with a work mobile phone and have access to fleet vehicles for work purposes at the discretion of management.

The job will mainly be based at our residence at Wolseley Bridge but you will also be expected to cover all sites as required. This role would suit someone who is keen to work in the maintenance sector, a self starter who can identify issues and problem solve. Keen to take responsibility for health and safety of site and has interest in the continuous improvement for maintenance processes and Aspris values.

The job will be based across the 3 sites within Rugeley and surrounding areas - due to the location of our sites and the travelling between these you will need to be a driver and have access to a car.
