Priory Hospital Dorking

Priory Hospital Dorking is a rehabilitation service for females with personality disorders that may have co-morbid mental health disorders or who may have a history of behaviours that challenge, resulting from self-harm, substance misuse problems or trauma.

The service is well placed to serve the South East of England.

The team at Priory Hospital Dorking are delighted to have gained AIMS accreditation. AIMS is a Quality Network for Mental Health Rehabilitation Services which provides a full support system for further improvement, sharing good practice and benchmarking analysis.

Receiving AIMS accreditation demonstrates the high quality of care that is being provided at Pelham Woods, and that national guidelines are being met. Pelham Woods is focused on excellence and learning, with a dedicated multidisciplinary team fully engaged in service development.

Our clinical programmes focus on rehabilitation on-site and in the community, and include programmes that are specifically focused on minimising the risk to self and others and building skills for a safe discharge into the community.

Are you an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist looking for a new challenge?

We are seeking a full time Consultant Psychiatrist to join our hospital. The successful candidate will provide care, assessment and treatment for our patients and will take appropriate action to ensure that standards of care are exceptional. You will be responsible for:

• Ensuring effective liaison with the referrals team to enable you to review referrals and determine appropriateness for admissions

• Conducting admissions assessments, risk assessments, reviews and ensuring effective management plans for all patients within the unit.

• Allocating specialist psychological treatments, in line with individual needs and assessing physical health, taking special responsibility for medical issues.

• Supervising and directing the work of other staff who treat the patients.

• Facilitating regular CPA review meetings

• Acting as Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act

• Providing an on call service and ensuring the provision of medical cover to the unit

• Opportunity to be involved in clinical governance standards and monitoring for the delivery of the service

• Developing protocols as required meeting standard in both psychological and pharmacological interventions.

To be successful you'll need:

• MRCPsych qualification or equivalent

• CCT/CESR in General Adult Psychiatry or Forensic Psychiatry with a strong interest in rehabilitation and recovery

• Approved under section 12(2) of the MHA1983

• Approved clinician status under the MHA 1983 / is eligible to work as a Responsible Clinician

• Up to date knowledge in the field of Adult Psychiatry, including physical health, mental health and systemic factors.

• Experience of working in an inpatient setting and with patients detained under the MHA.

• Awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy and legislation .

• A commitment to patient-centred care and to values-based and evidence based practice

What we can give you:

• The post-holder will be appointed through a consultant appointment committee.

Supervision will be offered once a month through the Medical Advisory Committee or individually as required.
