Job Advert Location Description

We are currently recruiting for a full time Chef/Cook, this will be a fixed term contract for 6 months. We are low secure Hospital based in Cardiff. The unit is home to 45 patients with enduring mental health and personality difficulties, most of whom also have forensic histories. The facility is split into six wards, along with semi-independent flats on-site. 

The unit boasts a robust multi-disciplinary team where the psychiatrist works alongside colleagues from Psychology; Nursing; Occupational Therapy; and Social Work to provide high quality care. 

Our aim is to rebuild the patient's confidence, self-esteem and hopes for the future and to give them the knowledge and resources to manage their own health so that they can manage their own sustainable recovery     

Job Advert Role Description

Assisting in providing a varied choice of menu to service users and staff. Assisting in providing diets as required by service users via requests from the clinical team. Preparing and delivering meals within the budget and preventing wastage. Ensuring the correct and economic use of materials and equipment. Assisting in the ordering of weekly supplies and monitoring their quality together with the efficiency of suppliers in the absence of the Head Chef. Reporting to the Head Chef any deterioration in food consumables supplied. Being responsible for the collection of food samples as required by the Environmental Health Department. Ensuring safety of self and training staff in the safe-keeping, usage and cleaning of kitchen equipment and sharp objects
Ensuring that all food preparation is of a high standard. Ensuring that all aspects of Health & Safety are adhered to e.g. COSHH, HASNA. Regularly checking and documenting temperature, equipment and cleanliness, quantity and appearance of meals.
