The Priory Hospital in Glasgow is a 32-bedded psychiatric hospital that provides medical and therapeutic treatment to patients with addictions, acute mental health issues, and eating disorders.  

Job Advert Role Description

We are seeking to recruit a part-time social worker to be based in our Eating Disorder Unit, to work alongside a full clinical team in supporting up to 23 female inpatients.
The Eating Disorder Unit accepts referrals from private patients, Scottish NHS Board, and NHS Commissioning bodies in England.
The post holder will be responsible to provide a social work service for patients and their families and carers.   Duties will include assessments, providing verbal and written evidence to support treatment and discharge planning, taking a lead role in delivering our Carers Support Strategy, support with welfare benefits, housing related matters, and liaison with external agencies and addressing discharge and aftercare issues.  Social workers, working within multi-disciplinary clinical teams, are key professionals regarding the assessment and management of risk and public protection requirements.
Our service provides high levels of therapeutic care that is under-pinned by evidence-based knowledge, delivered by a highly experienced team. Our individualised and group treatment programmes have clearly defined goals and outcomes for our patient group.
• Qualified social worker status (BA/ MA/ DipSW or recognised
• Current registration with the Health & Care Professions Council;
• Sound knowledge of relevant legislation and policy including
            the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Care Act,
            Children’s Act and Making Safeguarding Personal;
• Build effective working relationships with patients and their
            families in order to support their needs during admission and
            at discharge;
• Attendance at and contribution to ward rounds, family meeting,
            case conferences and multi-disciplinary meetings as required;
• Provision of written input to relevant reports;
• Supporting wards and units to ensure reporting to bodies such
           as the Health Improvement Scotland, Mental Welfare
           Commission, Local Authorities, and NHS Commissioners is 
           undertaken in line with legislation and policy;
• Assist with adult and child safeguarding issues and take
           appropriate action with relevant statutory services;
• Assist and support colleagues and relatives in understanding
           and interpreting legislation and statutory provision, particularly
           when these change;
• Where necessary, collaborate and act as main contact between
           relatives, agencies, and other official organisations,
           coordinating negotiations and communications regarding
           admissions, discharges and long term needs;
• Bring a holistic social work perspective to a varied MDT and
           promote social work values and anti-oppressive practice
