Job Advert Role Description

Because we want you to get off to the best start with us, we are giving you a fantastic Welcome Bonus of £1000 when you join us (Pro-rata for part time staff)

From 1st September 2021 our salaries will be increasing to £18,739.50 per annum  (£9.61  per hour)

We are looking for passionate, professional and dedicated employees to work with children and young adults with autistic spectrum disorders and challenging behaviour.

As a member of our residential care team, you will strive to bring out the best in every young person by supporting and guiding them in their daily lives. This could be in the form of helping the young person at school, accompanying them to take part in an activity (walking, horse riding, trampolining, Duke of Edinburgh etc.) or simply assisting them in completion of general daily tasks, including morning and night time routines.

The homes operate a rolling rota which indicates your shift patterns for the following 12 weeks. A typical early shift would be 07:30-16:00 and a late shift 15:30-22:00. You will work a combination of early and late shifts as assigned by the house manager. We also offer the opportunity to earn an additional £35 for a sleep-in shift, as well as the possibility of overtime.

Most of our young people attend Oliver House School, an independent specialist day and residential school for children aged 6 to 19 who have autistic spectrum disorders and associated complex learning needs and challenging behaviour.

Our aim is to enable every young person to have positive experiences and progress according to their individual abilities. The desired outcome is for them to achieve success in accredited qualifications and to gain increased levels of independence in order to maximise their strengths, abilities and ambitions.

Candidates should be:

  • Patient, sociable and empathetic, in order to establish good relationships with our young people based on confidence, trust, understanding and mutual respect
  • Prepared to deal with challenging behaviour which may be exhibited by a young person at any time for any number of reasons
  • Willing to assist in household maintenance tasks such as cleaning in order to maintain the high level of cleanliness expected within the children’s homes.

What we offer:

  • Opportunities in Ribbleton, Grimsargh, Penwortham, Lostock Hall and Leyland (please indicate preference in application)
  • Flexible working hours
  • 33 days annual leave (Inc. bank holidays)
  • Full training - relevant qualifications are desirable, but not essential
  • Enhanced disclosure cost coverage
  • Comprehensive induction and commitment to on-going training
  • Online benefits and cash back rewards
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Dental Insurance
  • Travel Insurance
  • SMART Pension option
  • Healthcare Cash Plan

*Current employees, those referred by employees or an agency are not eligible for the joining bonus.

The Welcome Bonus will be payable in three instalments with the first instalment of £250 (pro-rata for part time staff) payment in your first full months’ salary following your start date; the second instalment of £250 (pro-rata for part time staff) will be paid upon successful completion of your probation period (6 months) and the final payment of the remaining balance after 12 months.
