Job Advert Role Description

Set in its own grounds close to Frome town centre, North Hill House is an independent specialist day and residential school for children and young people aged 6 to 19 years with high functioning autistic spectrum disorders, including Asperger’s Syndrome and associated difficulties.

We are seeking a motivated, skilled and resilient Food Technology Teacher with experience and/or a strong interest in supporting young people on the autistic spectrum. The chosen candidate will demonstrate energy and enthusiasm, and will be able to deliver BTEC Level 1 and 2 Cookery.

Part time and full time applications will be considered for this position. This role may involve some personal care and you must be a driver with at least 3 years driving experience.

You may have experience of supporting young people with severe learning difficulties but this will not be essential. You will have a flexible approach and will be able to meet the changing needs of our young people. As a Class Teacher, you will direct and mentor classroom support staff.

Ideal applicant:

  • Experience of working in a SEN environment is desirable, along with knowledge of working with ASD and complex needs
  • You will join a supportive and experienced team of dedicated education and support staff
  • With the support of colleagues, you will develop the skills, confidence and experience to deal with the challenging behaviour that some of our students can, at times, exhibit
  • Enthusiasm, willingness to learn and emotional resilience are essential attributes

Full training and development will be provided along with a bespoke induction programme and the ability to network with teachers across other Priory sites

Your Benefits:

  • Priory Perks reward and discount scheme
  • Comprehensive induction
  • Pension scheme
  • We cover the cost of your enhanced disclosure check
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Commitment to your ongoing training and career progression
  • Employee recognition scheme

North Hill House has been specifically designed to provide a strong focus for both UK and international students who need different levels of support to succeed, thus allowing young people with autistic spectrum disorders, Asperger’s Syndrome and associated difficulties to thrive effectively in an ever-demanding and complex society.  Students have ambitions to live and work as self-reliant adults and we can help them to reach their goals with continued support, structure and guidance.  The school welcomes students on a day or weekly residential basis for 38 weeks per year.
