The Site

Priory Ty Catrin is a specialist low secure service (capacity of 45 beds), situated around 15 minutes from Cardiff in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales. The hospital provides assessment and treatment services for individuals with mental disorder and associated challenging behaviors, who are detained under the Mental Health Act 1983, and who require support and supervision within a secure environment.

The core function of the service is to complete a full and comprehensive assessment of need, working closely with the individual service user, using a multi-disciplinary approach to developing a thorough care and treatment package, risk assessment documentation based on the assessment of need, and an ongoing review of this package using the Care Programme Approach.

By adopting this standard, the clinical teams are constantly working towards the ultimate aim of successfully discharging individuals to less secure environments, such as rehabilitation services, or returning individuals to their local communities.   The clinical teams also work very closely with local service providers, individual patients’ community nurses, social workers and other external professionals to facilitate a timely return to less secure environments, as dictated by the individual’s progress through the assessment and treatment process.
