Burton Park is a 50 bedded neurobehavioural locked rehabilitation hospital for patients with acquired brain injury and neuro-progressive conditions. The multi-disciplinary team includes psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, speech & language therapy, physiotherapy, social workers and medical professionals. Burton Park is a member of the Independent Neurorehabilitation Providers Alliance (INPA).

Key Responsibilities

Our Occupational Therapist role involves working with patients on individualised plans of care, facilitating group sessions and 1:1 sessions to provide occupational engagement and enrichment, and to maintain or develop patient’s life skills.  The role also requires:

•           Working as part of an experienced multidisciplinary team, providing occupational therapy assessments and interventions to individuals and groups. 

•           Our client group resides within medium, low and locked rehabilitation levels of security, within a forensic learning disability service. 

•           The successful candidate will  be based predominantly on one allocated ward within the service although will be required to support other wards and may be required to work across other areas of the service if the service requires it.

•           The secure setting allows the opportunity to further develop and enhance your interpersonal and intrapersonal skills.

•           Working as part of a large and supportive team of occupational therapists, teachers, occupational therapy assistants, technical instructors, a teaching assistant and speech and language therapist, you will be actively encouraged to develop new ideas and innovative interventions that enhance patients’ skills development and social inclusion.

To be successful as Occupational Therapist, you’ll need to be:

•           Reflective and self-aware

•           Sensitive to the particular demands of the setting

•           Able to use supervision effectively

•           Self motivated

•           Keen to learn

You must have a degree in Occupational Therapy and 18 months post-graduate experience. However, other applicants will be considered.

Experience within mental health, learning disabilities, secure or forensic settings would be desirable and the successful candidate will have a strong interest in working within the field of secure forensic learning disabilities.
