Job Advert Role Description

We are currently looking to grow our already established and dedicated team of support workers at The Birches in Chesterfield, part of Priory Adult Care.

The Birches (part of Priory Adult Care) is a specialist service developed to support the mental health and learning disability needs of 7 individuals aged 18 years and over.
The Birches is a service designed to assist in the gradual integration and rehabilitation back into the community, through person centred support planning and risk assessment, enabling and empowering the people we support. We focus on providing innovative therapeutic treatment and support to each person on an individual basis and our residents are given both the support and encouragement to live as independently as possible.

We are looking for someone to join our team who shares the same values and passion around providing excellent care and support to those with a diagnosis of a learning disabilities, mental health difficulties or something in-between. We, as a staff team have the shared value that everyone is entitled to the very best person-centred care and support – we strive to include the people we support, in every aspect of their care, including the generation of support plans, re-evaluation of risk assessments and measurable outcomes of success – which is visible for them to see.

We are looking for someone who believes that every day you can make a difference to the lives of the people we support, whether it is a small task or a huge milestone.

As a support worker you will enable and empower the people we support to achieve their goals, dreams and aspirations. For some of the people we support, this can be as simple as a trip into Chesterfield town centre for a coffee and cake or it can be conquering the largest mountain in England. We aim to provide this sense of achievement and aspiration to all the people we support.

We are looking for someone who can make a difference to the people we support through the psychological, emotional and sometimes physical support they require. No two days are the same and can there be periods of extreme highs and periods of unexplainable lows – as a staff team, we need to work collaboratively to facilitate a safe and protected space for people to release emotions which could lead them to cause injury to themselves.

The ideal support worker will:

  • Be reliable, friendly and caring to help our residents achieve their everyday goals
  • Be able to support in-house activities and hobbies, even if this is not something you have previously turned your hand to!
  • Be attentive and inspire our residents to achieve more than they set out to achieve
  • Be resilient and help manage some behaviours that challenge
  • Support peoples understanding around medication administration and the importance of compliance with medication
  • Take pride in your working environment – although this is your place of work, this is the home to the people we support
  • Share the values of Priory Adult Care in striving for person-centred care for all those we support
  • Previous experience is not essential, as we at Priory Adult Care are fortunate enough to have a wealth of training options available to all staff – we do however expect all staff to have a good understanding of what good quality care looks like
  • A full UK driving license would be desirable, however we are fortunate enough to be located a short 15-minute walk from Chesterfield town centre where you can find an abundance of cafes, shops and more

What we’ll give you:

  • A rewarding job, full of variety and opportunities for career development
  • Brilliant, ongoing training to help you achieve more
  • Support of an experienced and friendly team of colleagues
  • Access to our Career Pathways, which will help shape your career with us – you can work towards goals and milestones that will take your career in whichever direction you wish
