Job Advert Role Description

Our children's home in Shepton Mallet are seeking to recruit dedicated staff to join our support services team.

Our home offers exciting opportunities for strong, enthusiastic and highly motivated staff who support our young people with challenging, complex and diverse needs and who preferably have some knowledge of autistic spectrum disorders and Asperger’s Syndrome.  However experience is not essential, providing you have a willingness to learn and the compassion and patience needed to support.  The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a high degree of emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Our Support Workers:

  • Are a key member of our team, providing high standards of person-centred care
  • Provide a creative and caring atmosphere and build good relationships with both young people and their families
  • Guide our young people in the planning of goals and in living as independently as possible
  • Provide personal care and participate in activities
  • Work flexibly to cover a shift rota system that includes early, late and weekend shifts.

A clean driving licence with at least 3 years driving experience is essential.  It is an expectation of the role that all of our Support Workers will either work towards or already hold the level 3 Diploma for Children and Young Peoples Workforce.

About Us

The Russet is a children's home in Shepton Mallet for young people aged 16 and over, who access education at Farleigh FE College in Frome.

Farleigh Further Education College Frome is an independent specialist residential college for young people aged 16 to 25 with autistic spectrum disorders, Asperger's syndrome and associated complex needs including behavioural difficulties.

Each of the college's eight residential houses has its own identity, working ethos and dedicated team of staff. This provides learners with the opportunity to experience independent living in a range of different settings.

We aim to provide every young person with an individually tailored programme of education, care, work experience, leisure and life skills and training within the community, to enable them to live as independently as possible.

Our dedicated team of staff create a safe, secure and independent living environment where our young people have a sense of belonging within their group and a sense of ownership of their home. Our approach enables young people to develop the confidence and skills they need to progress towards adulthood, including further or higher education and sustainable independent living in the community.
