Job Advert Role Description

Priory Hospital Hemel Hempstead is a well-regarded independent sector 38 bedded High Dependency Rehabilitation Inpatient Unit with a good overall rating from the CQC. There are three wards within the hospital: a fifteen bedded male rehabilitation unit, a twelve bedded female rehabilitation unit and an eleven bedded ward for people with cognitive impairment and challenging behaviour. 

The majority of our service users have treatment-resistant psychosis or cognitive impairment (dementia/ABI) with challenging behaviours.  All patients are placed and funded by the NHS, with an expected length of stay between one to five years. 

The post-holder will be working with both part-time consultants (1.1 WTE). There is an extensive MDT, including psychologist, occupational therapist, speech & language therapist, dietician, part-time physical health nurse and a GP that visits weekly. 

The hospital is located in beautiful and tranquil surroundings, within minutes of the M25 and A41. It is also situated a short tax-ride (approximately 3 minutes) from Hemel Hempstead train station. 

We are now looking to appoint a Speciality Doctor to work within our dynamic multi-disciplinary team across all three wards, to deliver our purpose in make a real and lasting difference for everyone we support. You will play a key role in building a culture that supports our values and puts the people we care for at the centre of what we do. As part of the multi-disciplinary team at site and supported by the wider Group teams, you will be accountable for delivery of high quality clinical services for our patients.

Responsibilities of the role are as follows:
•Clerking in all new admissions 
•Provide medical input to management of inpatients under consultant supervision. A degree of independent working will be advantageous.
•Monitoring and management of physical health issues
•Working in collaboration with MDT to monitor day to day progress and review of treatment plans as needed
•Participation in weekly MDT reviews as well as CPA reviews, completion of risk assessment and following up on agreed actions
•Liaison with professionals and completion of reports for Manager's Hearing's, First-Tier Tribunals and discharge summaries in a timely manner.

Most of the physical healthcare will be undertaken by the GP and physical health  nurse, although the post holder will be expected to support with this when appropriate. This may include reviewing physical observations, emergency treatment to patients in complex care, arranging appropriate clinical tests and investigations, and taking responsibility for chasing up results and acting on them in a timely manner.

There is both a first and second on-call rota - participation in this will be dependent on the level of experience.

Specialty Doctors are expected to participate actively in clinical audits and Quality Improvement projects undertaken by the Consultant Psychiatrists and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

Any other duties considered to be commensurate with the level of the post.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria:
•Current GMC registration with license to practice
•Clinical skills and competencies consistent with experience of at least 2 years in psychiatry

Desirable Criteria

•Section 12 approval
•Experience of working in male and female mental health settings - preferably mental health rehabilitation or forensic and old age psychiatry.
•Membership of Royal College of Psychiatrists

The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS and reference check and an offer of employment will be subject to successful clearance.
