Job Advert Role Description

Ty Catrin is a low secure mental illness and personality disorder service for males and females who require a medium-term placement and recovery-orientated specialist treatment in order to progress on their care pathway towards rehabilitation care. Part of this rehabilitation is often developing the skills needed to live more independently upon discharge, and this will often involve basic skills tutoring and signposting to further education and training opportunities in the community.  

Ty Catrin Hospital is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and dynamic Adult Education/Basic Skills Tutor on a part-time basis.

You will work closely with the Occupational Therapy team and will be line managed by the Senior Occupational Therapist. This will enable close working between disciplines and creative approaches to adapt traditional classroom teaching.

The role will include administering and marking Initial and Diagnostic Assessments, producing learning plans in line with individual learners Literacy and Numeracy needs, and delivering a range of one-to-one and group learning sessions.

You will need to be able to work within the restrictions of the setting and adapt your teaching style to enable the progress of learners who have not been able to access mainstream education.

You will have well developed communication and interpersonal skills and be able to engage with and motivate learners, with the ability to meet differentiated learning needs.

You will be able to produce reports and notes to a high standard in line with company policy and electronic clinical records, in order to communicate an individual’s progress and inform the wider multi-disciplinary team with regards to your perspective on their learning style and communication needs.

The ideal candidate will also support patients to study for accredited qualifications for example ESW Qualifications (Communication, Application of Number and Digital Literacy) and/or Agored certified courses. An aspect of the role will also involve linking in with further training or Adult Education services in the community and signposting patients to appropriate opportunities following their initial assessments.


Essential Qualifications/experience required for role:

Recognised Teaching Qualification

Level 3 Qualification in Delivery of Basic Skills / Essential Skills Practitioners Qualification

2+ years post qualification/NQT experience
