Job Advert Role Description

St John’s House is a 47-bedded Medium and Low Secure Unit for Men and Women in Diss, which specialises in the assessment, care and treatment of adult residents (18+ years) with a developmental disorder and challenging behaviours.

There are three units on site; a 16-bedded MSU for men, a 16-bedded MSU for women and a soon to be refurbished 15-bedded LSU for women. Whilst the refurbishment takes place there are plans to introduce a new ‘blended’ service between the women’s medium and low secure services which will be psychologically informed.

An exciting opportunity has opened for a dynamic consultant level Psychologist with experience in working with women who have a developmental disability to join our team based at St John’s House, Diss, Suffolk.

As our new Consultant Psychologist, you will be responsible for the clinical psychological assessment and interventions within the Women’s Service.

Your key responsibilities will include:

•           Responsibility for the implementation of effective clinical interventions and ensuring that the treatments are designed to enhance the operation and quality of clinical services, which is aligned to best practice

•         Provide consultation to other professions, encouraging a psychological approach in their work

•           Manage and supervise the Registered Psychologist and Psychology Assistants for the service ensuring that they are encouraged to work within their career pathway and develop professionally where possible

•           To help promote an effective working relationship across the multidisciplinary team. Work alongside psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, education professionals, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists to deliver a holistic approach to treatment

•           Support and encourage a safe and efficient discharge that meets the patients’ pathway and needs.

Essential skills and requirements:

•           Registered with the HCPC you must hold recognised qualification together with full membership / accreditation of a relevant professional institution and evidence of continuous professional development.

•           Passionate about providing high quality care and continuous improvement

•           Demonstrated leadership and decision-making skills essential.

•           Forward thinking, proactive and creative individual who can think outside the box

•           At least 5 years’ experience of working with clients in similar settings

•           The ability to deal with multiple issues simultaneously in a highly dynamic environment.

•           Excellent verbal and non-verbal communications.

•           Strives to ensure every colleague is able to make a positive and lasting difference to patients and their families.
