Job Advert Role Description

Newbury Manor School is a specialist school for 30 young people aged 7 to 19 who have autistic spectrum disorders (ASD).

Our tailored approach means we are able to support young people with a wide range of needs, from those who are broadly average in their ability to others, who have more severe learning difficulties.

We provide a total environment where young people are offered safe, secure and predictable surroundings in which they can come to understand their own areas of difficulties and learn skills and techniques in order to overcome them. This ensures that they are able to fulfil their potential socially, academically, physically and spiritually and enable them to rebuild their low self-esteem and self-belief.

We take pride in the environment we can offer. The school is located in a beautiful, quiet, rural location in Somerset in a Georgian manor house, which has a range of outbuildings and extensive grounds. Our ethos was created in the belief that a positive, supportive, achieving culture is essential for good pupil progress. We seek to maximise independence and individual potential so pupils gain the skills to live happy, meaningful and fulfilling lives.

Successful candidates will contribute to the effective implementation of individual programmes by supporting the social and independence activities and experiences, which enhance the learning and development of children and young people. You will be required to support young people in accessing their planned activities, including some aspects of personal care.

A crucial element of this role is to ensure the social and emotional development of our students by role modelling.

The successful candidates will:

  • Have the ability to work flexibly across a shift system.
  • You must also be able to demonstrate a high degree of emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • QCF level 3 Diploma in relevant care/children & young people related area or equivalent or higher recognised qualification.
  • It is not anticipated that all new recruits to the role will have QCF Level 3 qualification but will commence the attainment process within six months of joining and will have a specific time period in which to qualify.

We are seeking to cover our late shifts on Wednesdays and Thursdays, from midday to 10pm.

A clean driving licence with at least 3 years driving experience is essential.
