Job Advert Role Description

Devon Childrens Services is made up of two schools, Quay View School (Bere Alston)  and Tor View School (Tavistock) and four children's homes based in Tavistock, Gunnislake and Okehampton. We specialise in care and education of children and young people aged 7-19 with autism, learning difficulties, challenging behaviour and SEMH. The safeguarding and wellbeing of our young people who may have experienced challenges in their lives is always paramount; along with encouragement to achieve their full potential.

 

We are looking for an inspirational and dedicated individual to join our  team, with proven track records in achieving high standards of delivery in their area of responsibility:

Key areas of responsibility:

• Planning and preparation of outdoor programme delivery and/or indoor based training sessions where necessary.

• Delivery of activities for which you hold the appropriate qualifications, or for which you have been in-house assessed, and assisting alongside staff of a relevant level of qualification or experience.

The successful candidate will need to have the required qualifications ideally to lead:

  • Moorland and or mountain walking
  • Watersports
  • Climbing
  • Cycling
  • Land/Forest skill activities

The successful candidate will be primarily based at Tor View School Tavistock, will need to have experience in the following areas:

  • learning through adventure and the environment
  • relating to young people with a variety of needs
  • adapting the curriculum to meet a range of student needs
  • an understanding or experience of use of interventions
  • an understanding or experience of working with students with a range of complex needs, including Autistic Spectrum Condition or Emotional, Social and Attachment related needs
  • Promoting and enabling social development through experiences

We want to find the right person, so can be flexible about the role for the right candidate, building on your strengths to meet our students' needs. This is an exciting opportunity to set up a new outdoor education aspect to a new curriculum with lifelong skills at its heart.

An outstanding individual, you will have:

  • excellent creative teaching practice that adapts to different learner's needs
  • a proven track record of working with children with a wide range of complex learning needs with the ability and drive to deliver outstanding outcomes for our young people
  • the skills to work within a strong team
  • excellent communication and inter-personal skills and be able to communicate effectively with parents, carers and liaise with other professionals
  • a strong resillient personality who can process challenging situations with dysregulated students to ensure that there is a positive resolution.
  • a strong professional attitude with vision, creativity and enthusiasm who will contribute to the continued development of our school
  •  familiarity with the geographical area, in particular Dartmoor, to enable the students and school to make full use of this resource.
  • be able to develop facilities on site if appropriate and in line with curriculum plans.
  • aspiration for professional and career development.
