Job Advert Role Description

Mildmay Oaks is a low secure and locked rehabilitation service for men with learning disability and autism spectrum disorder, and for women with learning disability.

A variable role undertaking general day to day maintenance / Kitchen duties throughout the hospital, wards and its grounds supporting the Maintenance Supervisor or Catering Manager as appropriate

Basic understanding of Health and Safety, fire regulations and COSHH, electrics and plumbing with experience in general building maintenance. Be adaptable and flexible to meet the needs of the hospital

The post holder must have a good command of the English language.


Maintain the interior and exterior of buildings.

Carry out general electrical and plumbing repairs as directed by the maintenance supervisor.

Cleaning windows, guttering and general building repairs

Unblock drains and toilets

Assist with maintenance of the grease pits and cesspits

Maintaining hospital grounds to keep neat and tidy and in good repair

Carry out painting and decorating as required

Assist with carpentry and basic furniture repairs, woodwork and changing locks etc

Help with vehicle maintenance where appropriate

Collect goods and materials from local suppliers as and when required

Maintain a safe and secure environment by being aware of staff, patients and visitors security.

Be aware of and comply with the responsibilities arising from the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and any local interpretations and assist in regular monitoring and maintenance of equipment in accordance with Health and Safety regulations.

Follow a daily task list and work in accordance with Company policies and procedures.

Participate in any other relevant duties as agreed with the General Manager.


Cleaning all kitchen utensils and equipment, plates and cutlery from the wards

Operating regular kitchen cleaning on a day-to-day schedule basis

Preparing fresh food for the times of service

Running the kitchen in absence of the catering supervisor

Being responsible for correct washing/cleaning and storage procedures for kitchen utensils, restaurant plates, and cutlery

Preparing food and desserts for the main meals at lunch and tea time

Placing orders with suppliers

Being responsible for dishwashing machine in regard to cleaning and correct operation

Maintaining a professional approach at all times, conducting yourself in a smart, clean, hygienic and orderly manner

Maintaining flexible working hours at all times

Maintaining health and safety at work practices at all times

Assisting in basic food preparation, e.g. salads, sandwiches, vegetables

Following specification files and understanding measurements

Accepting deliveries, monitoring inventory and rotating stock
