Priory Group is the leading healthcare provider for mental health services in the UK with an established track record of delivering high-quality clinical care. The Priory Hospital Southampton is part of the Priory group offering outpatient, day care and inpatient treatment for a wide range of mental health difficulties. The hospital is located in Marchwood on the outskirts of Southampton and comprises 40 inpatient beds across three wards.


Sandpiper Ward: This is an acute admissions unit comprising 17 beds. 

Skylark Ward:  11 bedded specialist eating disorders unit

Kingfisher Ward:  12 bedded CAMHS inpatient unit


The hospital has established multidisciplinary teams in all wards including nursing, medical, psychology, therapy and occupational therapy input. 


The hospital provides a combination of NHS funded and private care and has been rated as “Good” in recent CQC inspection with “outstanding” rating in the "caring" domain. The skylark eating disorders unit is accredited with QED.


We are seeking to recruit a psychological therapist with expertise in CBT and/or additional therapeutic modalities to work in Skylark specialist eating disorders unit which offers NHS funded inpatient care.  In this role, you would be part of the MDT including consultant psychiatrist, ward doctor, occupational therapist, dietitian, clinical psychologist and assistant psychologist, and would deliver psychological interventions in line with the agreed MDT treatment goals. The post holder would be supervised and line managed by the clinical psychologist. A previous experience in eating disorders or working in inpatient settings is desirable but not essential.


The duties include:

 - Receives and responds promptly to referrals undertaking initial assessments to establish the scope, level and nature of the individual client’s therapeutic needs.

-  Leads and facilitates group and/or individual therapy sessions, ensuring activities and interventions continue to meet the needs of the clients, and are consistent with the provisions detailed in the clients’ therapy plan.

 - Manages, monitors and reviews an assigned caseload, ensuring delivery within the agreed timescales.

 -  Maintains accurate and up-to-date clinical records, case file notes and computerised information, and other associated documentation; providing and presenting progress reports to multidisciplinary meetings on a regular basis.

 - Liaise with families, professional and clinical colleagues, as part of the MDT. Also, assist with the analysis and reporting of statistical data and information for research and audit purposes.

-  Contributes to the development of Priory healthcare policies, procedures, processes and initiatives. Ensure their clinical practice complies with statutory regulations and current legislation, meet quality standards and deliver against key performance indicators.

- Regularly reviews the services and pricing points and adjusting in accordance to the demand for the service.


Knowledge & Skills

The post holder will have provisional or full BABCP accreditation. However, we may also consider a candidate who has BACP/UKCP accreditation with evidence of sufficient expertise in CBT and/or experience in therapeutic modalities such as DBT, ACT, CAT or systemic therapy, and an interest or previous experience in eating disorders. The ideal candidate would be open to gaining additional skills and develop expertise in multidisciplinary management of eating disorders.  The post requires being able to work closely with a number of professionals in the team.
