Job Advert Role Description

Blake ward is our new acute service which was opend in June 2020. The service provides acute care for mental illness for up to twelve adults, six male and six females. The service is  within the grounds of a forensic hospital but have a dedicated team to deliver care on the ward. There is a  clear pathway for patients back into the community by working closely with the patient and their community team to ensure a timely discharge into the community.

We are now looking to appoint a Speciality Doctor to work within our Multi-disciplinary team on our 12 bedded Mixed Acute adult Ward to deliver our purpose to make a real and lasting difference for everyone we support. You will play a key role in building a culture that supports our values and puts the people we care for at the centre of what we do. As part of the multi-disciplinary team at site and supported by the wider Group teams, you will be accountable for delivery of high quality clinical services for our patients.

 

 

Responsibilities of the role are as follows:

 

•Clerking in all new admissions during working hours  

•Provide medical input to management of inpatients under consultant supervision

•Monitoring and management of physical health issues in collaboration with the practice nurse and visiting GP

 

•Participating in morning MDT handovers

 

•Working in collaboration with MDT to monitor day to day progress and review of treatment plans as needed

 

•Participation in weekly MDT reviews, completion of risk assessment and following up on agreed actions

 

•Liaison with professionals and completion of discharge summaries in a timely manner.

 

•The post holder will be expected to support the GP in delivering physical health care and emergency treatment to patients in complex care.

 

•Arrange appropriate clinical tests and investigations and take responsibility for chasing up results and acting on them in a timely manner.

 

•Ensure physical observations by ward staff are carried out in accordance with medical instructions. Review physical observation findings and act upon them in a clinically appropriate manner.

 

•Out of hours’ duties are not currently expected of the post holders.

 

•Specialty Doctors are expected to participate actively in clinical audits undertaken by the Consultant Psychiatrists and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

 

•Any other duties considered to be commensurate with the level of the post

 

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

 

•Current GMC registration with license to practice

•Clinical skills and competencies consistent with experience of at least 2 years in psychiatry

 

Desirable Criteria

 

•Section 12 approval

•Experience of working in male and female Acute settings

•Membership of Royal College of Psychiatrists

 

The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS and reference check and an offer of employment will be subject to successful clearance.
