Job Advert Role Description

We are looking for a full-time experienced Maintenance Assistant to carry out reactive day to day maintenance issues within our schools and their grounds. You will also assist in supporting our other homes in the community, liaising with contractors when on site and ad-hoc requests from management as and when necessary.

Skills Required

  • Self motivation and the ability to work with minimum supervision, a flexible approach and the ability to prioritise and respond to the changing needs of the homes and schools
  • An understanding of the working environment and of young people with special education needs including Autism and Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties would be an advantage but not a requirement
  • Ideally, you will have experience in some of the following areas: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plastering (qualifications are not essential). This position could suit an enthusiastic and experiences DIYer. 

It is an essential requirement of this role that the successful candidate holds a full driving license.

An enhanced DBS disclosure is required for this position and will be applied for once a conditional offer is made.  We will provide some in-house training along with mandatory e-learning modules as part of your role.

Devon Children's Services is made up of two schools, Quay View School (Bere Alston) and Tor View School (Tavistock) and three children's homes based in Tavistock, Gunnislake and Okehampton.  We specialise in care and education of children and young people aged 7-19 with autism, learning difficulties, challenging behaviour and SEMH.
