Job Advert Role Description

We require a motivated, skilled and resilient Qualified Teacher with experience in supporting young people on the autistic spectrum. The role will suit a Qualified Teacher who can demonstrate the following:

  • Energy, enthusiasm and the ability to teach effectively, focussing on Science (Biology GCSE) and PE
  • A flexible approach with the ability to meet the changing needs of our young people
  • Previous experience of working with young people who have complex communication issues in a SEN environment, along with knowledge of working with ASD and complex communication issues
  • A knowledge of the Thrive or other programmes that hold young people with high regard.

With the support of colleagues, you will develop your skills, confidence and experience to deal with the challenging behaviour that some of our students can, at times, exhibit.  Enthusiasm, willingness to learn and emotional resilience are essential attributes.  As Class Teacher, you will direct and mentor classroom support staff.

You will be responsible for the pastoral support of a group of students and the teaching of core subjects, with co-planning time with subject specialists where needed.

You will join a supportive and experienced team of dedicated education and support staff.  Full training and development will be provided along with a bespoke induction programme and the ability to network with teachers across other Priory sites.

Sedgemoor Manor is a specialist day school registered for 45 young people who have needs associated with a diagnosis on the autistic spectrum/SPLD and are aged between 10 and 18 years. Our tailored approach means we are able to support young people with a wide range of learning difficulties. We accept that young people who are referred to us may have previously experienced a ‘cycle of failure’ and our aim is to have a transformational impact on their lives by them experiencing a ‘culture of success’. We support all young people to achieve successful outcomes so that they can progress to experience fulfilling and rewarding lives.

We offer bespoke packages of education and therapy for our young people. We strongly believe that some individuals will always struggle to ‘fit in’ to existing structures and will only thrive when their provision is tailored to their specific needs and circumstances.

We warmly welcome our students into our community, which is underpinned by a culture of outstanding relationships, nurture and unconditional high regard.
