Job Advert Role Description

Priory Hospital Southampton is a smoke-free hospital that provides 40 beds across 3 wards. The services provided at the hospital include a young peoples ward (CAMHs) and treatment of most psychiatric conditions and Eating Disorders.

We have a highly experienced team of mental health professionals and support staff, which include consultant psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses and therapists.

As this is a zero hrs contract, holiday pay and pension contribution will also be paid weekly with the wage adding an addiitonal 13% pay. On weekends this will be increased further by a 20% pay enhancement. The site currently needs to cover a full time chef position (37.5hrs per week) and weekend chef position (18.5hrs) until the end of the COVID 19 pandemic.

The duties of the job role are to:

1. Undertake the planning, preparation and cooking of meals, taking account of any special requests or dietary requirements within the unit.

2. Take full shift responsibility for the catering operation (in the absence of the Head Chef).

3. Ensure the cost-effective and efficient control of stock including placing orders for food products and the checking/reconciliation of deliveries. Ensure that wastage is minimised.

4. Assist the Head Chef by researching and creating new menus ensuring meals are of a high quality and compliment healthy eating guidelines.

5. Supervise assigned catering staff ensuring their quality of work continues to meet required operational standards and the company’s Assured Safe Catering policies and guidelines.

6.Organise and prioritise own work within established procedures, referring complex issues to senior catering staff.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

NVQ2 or equivalent or Qualified By Experience in Catering together with a basic qualification in food hygiene. Experience within a professional kitchen environment.

The role holder works within a busy kitchen environment using a variety of equipment where many routine duties require a degree of sustained physical effort. The role holder will be required to undertake specialist dietary training, as well as partaking in Priory’s mandatory training programme.
