Job Advert Role Description

We don’t just talk about putting employees first. We know that Priory wouldn’t exist without their combined energy, expertise and effort.  So we invest heavily in training, provide first-class support, promote collaborative teamwork and give everyone on our team the opportunities and resources to achieve their full potential.

Priory Arnold provides acute adult mental health services, delivered in partnership with Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust, at our purpose built facility in Arnold. After two years of successfully providing services for females, we opened a second acute service in May 2019 on behalf of the Trust, for male patients. Having previously provided Medium Secure Services on site we are looking to open an adult Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in the near future.

Priory Group’s focus on quality improvement, combined with Priory Arnold’s focus on delivering patient-centred care allow us to continuously evaluate and enhance our performance.

Priory Arnold enjoys a stable and established MDT which includes OT, psychology and experienced RMN's.  The hospital offers a range of treatments and interventions including promoting least restrictive practice and patient collaboration in decision making. The service works closely with other Priory Healthcare services within the Priory North Region enabling and developing supportive care pathways.

Our approach

The treatment programmes at Priory Arnold aim to optimise patient recovery and potential by treating and minimising risk behaviours and by enabling them to develop psychological / emotional, social and occupational skills and resilience.

All interventions aim to help the patient to understand the effect of their behaviour on others, to help them to manage the impact of external triggers on their behaviour and ultimately to promote the concept of recovery. These interventions include:

Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT)
Mental health awareness group
Individual and group psychological therapy
Managing anger programme (MAP)
Drug and alcohol programme
Relationship programme (social skills)
Coping skills programme
Problem solving therapy

Our structured approach to care explicitly acknowledges and supports the issue of change (or readiness for change) and is essential for successful engagement and treatment.

Current vacancies

Due to internal moves, we now have a vacancy for a dedicated full-time Consultant Psychiatrist on one of our 16 bed mixed gender acute wards. The service will accept admissions 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, from Nottinghamshire NHS but also from  other parts of the United Kingdom. We seek to appoint a highly-motivated Consultant Psychiatrist to complement our existing medical work force. As a Consultant Psychiatrist you would lead a multidisciplinary team of professionals from nursing, clinical psychology, social work and occupational therapy and a Specialty Doctor who will form part of the MDT.

The successful candidate will be joining an expanding and clinically diverse Priory North Region.  There is strong governance structure within the Region and the successful applicant will be expected to take an active role in service and quality development activities and to participate in governance meetings and Service Line meetings, as necessary.

Priory Arnold operates a non-residential medical on call rota and the post holder is expected to participate on the on-call rota.

Please see the detailed Job Plan attached to this advertisement for the full details of the post.
