Job Advert Role Description

Priory Group have a rare and exciting opportunity for a Group Medical Director to join us as a core member of the Healthcare Divisions Senior Management Team, reporting into the Healthcare COO. The Group Medical Director will be responsible for providing clinical leadership across a series of service lines and have an active presence in Priory Group Healthcare services across the country. As a Group Medical Director you will manage a team of senior medical managers and service network clinical directors, whilst providing outstanding leadership across the wider medical team. The role holder will hold the statutory role of Caldecott Guardian, is responsible for leadership for medicines management group wide and acts as the responsible officer for regulatory bodies, the GMC and other medical governance. The successful candidate will have clinical experience in at least one of CAMHS, Acute Adult, Forensic, Mental Health or Rehabilitation services.  

Group Medical Director duties include but not limited to

  • As Responsible Officer, responsibility for ensuring there is an effective Revalidation Appraisal system, along with effective and equitable Revalidation decision making. Reporting on the same to the Operational Board, Healthcare Executive Committee, the GMC and NHSE London
  • Chairing a twice-yearly Medical Directors Meeting
  • Working with the Divisional Director of Quality to ensure the highest standards of clinical care, critical evaluation of services and the maintenance of an effective clinical governance environment
  • As the Group Caldicott Guardian, fulfil the responsibilities of the role by working with the SIRO and DPO to ensure data is shared, managed and processed within the framework of statutory requirements
  • Provide support to COO and the Director of Strategy and Service Development in furthering productive relationships with commissioners.

What we would like from the Group Medical Director

  • MRC Psych or equivalent with Section 12(2) and AC approval and ideally with CCT or equivalent accreditation
  • Be on the GMC specialist register and be recognised as a leading expert in their field
  • Completed Training as a Responsible Officer
  • Previous experience of medical management
  • Proven ability to lead the people and processes needed to optimise cross-functional multi-disciplinary clinical teams to deliver optimal clinical outcomes.
  • Experience as part of a Leadership Team at site level or above that has driven significant cultural change and business improvement, maintained over time.
