As a member of our team, you’ll help in supporting and inspiring our young people whilst we support you to learn and gain qualifications within care.

Where you’ll be working

Our residential children’s home in Southburgh, Norfolk (near Hingham) offers support for young people with Emotional Behaviour Disorder and Learning Disabilities, and can accommodate up to 8 young people both male and female between the ages of 11 – 18. The home operates 24 hours a day and is open 52 weeks per year.

The young people we support may display a range of behaviour that could result in a challenge for them and others around them. The emotions and behaviours the young people feel and or present with could result from an array of life experiences and or challenges that they have endured, so we are looking for people who can can work to our ethos of promoting an environment that is caring, nurturing, compassionate and safe. We are committed to providing an environment and culture which reflects the positive aspects of a family home and where young people have the opportunity to experience being a valuable contributor to the home.

Duties

As a Support Worker you’ll be doing the following:

  • Manage the well-being and behaviour of young people ensuring behaviours are addressed promptly and sensitively.
  • Assist senior staff with the writing and maintaining of reports including care plans
  • Support young people in daily activities both within the home and out in the community that help promote their independence and social behaviour. These include prompting personal hygiene, completing house chores such as keeping their rooms tidy, laundry, preparing snacks and meals (cooking), engaging in positive play & activities.
  • Support and encourage educational engagement
  • Safeguard both young people and the general public.
  • Ideally you will have Children, Young People & Families Practitioner Level 4 Diploma qualification (previously Diploma Level 3). Applicants without this qualification but the right attitude and willingness to learn could be considered.

This job role requires you to hold a current driving licence and be able to drive a manual vehicle.

Hours

A family is 24/7 and so are we. We use a rota system to ensure the young people in our homes get the care they need.

As a Support Worker at our home in Kingsbrook you can expect to work shifts of 8am - 11pm followed by a sleep in duty, that over a course of a month equates to 40 hours on average per week (sleep in duties are not included in these hours) and will include weekends as part of a shift pattern.
