Abbey House provides a specialist psychiatric rehabilitation and recovery service for 25 men aged 18 years or older with enduring mental illness and/or personality disorder. We support the needs of both detained and voluntary patients and can manage patients with complex needs, including those with a history of offending.

The main purpose of the role is to manage the operation of support services for the Hospital, including the catering, housekeeping, maintenance and administration functions.  The role holder is a member of the Senior Management Team.

Key accountabilities of the role:

1. Manages, develops and motivates various teams undertaking diverse roles; ensures that team supervisors undertake the necessary appraisals and provide the necessary training to staff members.  Recruits new team-members as required.

2. Communicates and implements Priory Policies and procedures, ensuring that all regulatory, health and safety and operational standards are adhered to.

3. Manages the maintenance of all the units assets, including the building, with the Capital Expenditure Budget; seeks advice and guidance from Estates professionals to ensure that all improvements to assets are carried out to Priory minimum standards, as well as meeting any regulatory requirements.  Project manages local capital expenditure, if required, meeting with contractors and ensuring best value.

4. Co-ordinates Health & Safety for the hospital reporting directly to the Hospital Director and feeds back to SMT, CG and H&S meetings.

The hours will be part time at 18.75hrs per week over a 7 day period.

There may also be a requirement for you to be on call, for additional remuneration.

The working pattern and on call requirement is negotiable for the right candidate

Knowledge and Skills Required:

The role holder requires a relevant professional qualification, which is accredited by a recognised institute.

The role holder would have gained experience within a relevant operational environment.

The role will be reviewed on a 6 monthly basis.



Full managerial responsibility for a significant team of staff undertaking diverse roles at various levels.

Budgets & Equipment :

Manages the Support Services budgets and has the delegated authority to sign off invoices as agreed with the unit Manager.  Responsible for the proper use of various assets, ensuring that assets are replaced or maintained correctly.  Maintaining appropriate records and data as required within Priory guidelines.

Communication & Interaction:

Communication is a key feature of the role, as the role holder will be required to motivate several different operational services.  Some coaching and interviewing will be necessary.  Additionally, the role holder will liaise with other departmental managers to ensure the quality of operational services continue to meet the needs of patients, visitors and staff.
