Job Advert Role Description

Devon Children's Services are looking for Residential Support Workers to join their team at Fairway Lodge in Okehampton. We are looking for enthusiastic staff to join the team in this new home. During your training period and until the homes open, you may be initially based in one of our homes in the Gunnislake or Tavistock area. This is to enable you to become familiar with our induction, competency and growth framework. This framework will ensure that you have competent training, mentoring and supervision to provide you with your chosen career path within social care which will be recognised with an attractive pay progression.

Devon Children's Services specialises in high quality residential and educational provisions for children between 7-19 who may have EMSH and /or Autism. The safeguarding and well-being of our young people who may have experienced challenges in their lives is always paramount; along with encouragement to achieve their full potential.

Devon Children's Services currently have two educational settings, Quay View School and Tor View School, and four Childrens Homes in Tavistock, Gunnislake and Okehampton.

As a Support Worker, you will be a key member of our team, providing high standards of person-centred support and care to our service users. Through a creative and caring approach, you will build good relationships with both service users and their families and other stakeholders, supporting service users in the planning of goals and in teaching them life skills. Both personal care and participation in activities are key tasks for the role, so energy and initiative is vital.

What we’d like from you:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Effective organisational capability
  • Great team player and the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Flexibility and resilience to respond to the changing needs of those who we support
  • Strong “can do” attitude.

Candidates must have either:

  • A Level 3 Diploma in Children or Young People's Workforce or willingness to undertake this qualification within a robust timescale.

What we’d like to give you:

  • A competitive salary
  • Enhanced disclosure cost coverage
  • Comprehensive induction and commitment to on-going training
  • Generous holiday allowance
  • Online benefits and cash back rewards
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • SMART Pension option.

Priory Group has also launched Careers Pathways, which will provide you with opportunities to develop your skills, gain further qualifications and undertake apprenticeships for debt free training.

This role includes weekends and evening work.  For this role we are offering either 37.5 or 40 hour contracts so salary will vary dependent on your contractual hours.  The home is located outside of the main town, so own transport is desired.

Priory Education and Children’s Services is a leading company in the UK offering independent behavioural care for commissioners across the UK.  With over 100 high quality schools, colleges and homes we focus on making a real and lasting difference for everyone we support.
