Job Advert Role Description

The Priory Hospital Middleton St George is located close to Darlington, County Durham and provides individualised treatment and care for people with mental health needs of adult working age and who present with complex and challenging behaviours, in a safe and supportive environment. Our comprehensive integrated services offer complete care pathways allowing service users to transfer effortlessly between the most appropriate care, meeting individual needs enabling recovery and re-engagement within the community and maximising life opportunities.


Our multi-disciplinary teams provide care for up to 103 male and female service users, working collaboratively with their commissioners, across our 7 wards and our nearby community house.  We deliver acute and detoxification services, and a recovery and rehabilitation environment which includes a specialist female Personality Disorder service.  Our focus is on the delivery of excellent care, empowering service users to progress towards the least restrictive setting and towards a less restrictive environment and to independent living. Our service users can be amongst the most vulnerable members of society and require sensitive therapeutic interventions that encourage self-awareness, knowledge and empowerment. We offer services for those with a wide range of mental health issues which may include:

•           Personality disorder with complex treatment and risk  management needs, including factors such as co-morbid mental illness, self-harm or substance misuse

•           Mental illness and complex needs

•           Primary diagnosis of schizophrenia

•           Forensic history, including violence or abuse

•           Substance abuse history which requires an inpatient stay 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Chef to join our team.


 As a Chef you will:


•  Undertake the planning, preperation and cooking of meals, taking account of any special requests or dietry requirements within the units.

•  Undertake in the delivery of prepared foods to our units around site.

•  Supervise assigned catering staff ensuring their quality of work continues to meet required operational standard and company's Food Safety policies and guidelines.

•  Ensure the cost-effective and efficient control of stock including placing orders for food products and the checking/reconciliation of deliveries. Ensure that waste is minimised. 

•  Assist the Catering Manager by reaserching and creating new menus ensuring meals are of a high quality and compliment healthy eating guidelines.

•  Participate in meetings with service users to discuss menus, issues, preferances and dietry requiremants.

•  Undertake any other duties as directed by the Catering Manager in the provision of high quality service.




•  Staff – Required to supervise the work of up to 5 catering staff.

•  Budgets & equipment – No budgetary or financial responsibility. Responsible for the appropriate use of catering stock and equipment.

•  Information – Shared responsibility for maintaining appropriate records and data as required under the compant’s Food Safety policies abd guidelines.


Knowlege & Skills:


•  NVQ2 or equivalent or Qualified By Experience in Catering together with a basic qualification in food hygiene.

•  Experiance within a professional kitchen enviroment.

-  Must have a clean UK driving licence
