Oliver House School are recruiting for an Autism and Complex needs Nurse.

Oliver House School, a division of Priory Education and Children’s Service are based in Preston. Oliver House School is a highly specialist independent school for children with autism, complex needs and challenging behaviour

As a nurse your duties will include; working as part of multi-disciplinary team to support the health and wellbeing of children and young people with autism, complex health needs, challenging behaviour and learning disabilities. As a Autism and Complex needs Nurse your duties will include;

  • Working in partnership with children and young people, their families and the multi-disciplinary team to enable the child to attain the optimum quality of life.
  • To facilitate the training needs of residential and education staff.
  • Clinical assessment and monitoring of children and young people, including the performance of nursing procedures where required.
  • Providing help and advice with the management of pupils with specific health conditions where appropriate.
  • General supervision of the safe administration of medicines and the safe keeping of same in accordance with NICE guidelines and the Standards for Administration of Medicine 1992.
  • Responding to unexpected changes in clinical need and staffing levels
  • To work primarily at Oliver House School, but with flexibility to work across different education and residential sites where required.
  • To take the lead on liaison and partnership working with external healthcare providers, including CAMHS, Learning Disability Teams, and Community Mental Health Teams, acute agencies and any other medical professionals and/or teams.
  • Creating and delivering specific, relevant training to education and residential staff in order to equip them with the skills to enable children and young people to fully access education, work experience and to live their lives to the full.

As the nurse on duty you will be required to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team involved in the assessment and care of children with autism and complex needs. This will involve working with Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Positive Behavioural Support, as well as teaching staff. You will be collaborating with the Multi-Disciplinary Team to identify staff training needs and coordinate training schedule.
