Job Advert Location Description

Kneesworth House is a 155 bed mental health hospital situated in Cambridgeshire (on the borders of Hertfordshire) with good commuting access to / from London. The hospital has a full pathway of care including medium, low secure, locked rehabilitation and open recovery wards  situated across the site.

Job Advert Role Description

Our Housekeeping/Maintenance role involves:

  • Reporting to the Housekeeping Supervisor, you will be working within the Housekeeping  Department performing a variety of tasks to deliver a comfortable and safe environment for patients and staff
  • Ensuring all tasks are achieved around the needs of the hospital staff in their area of work and the patients who reside within the hospital
  • Maintaining hard polished and carpeted floors, using the equipment provided to ensure they in good condition and stain free
  • Shampooing furniture when necessary, using the equipment provided
  • Emptying litter bins and litter picking on site, ensuring the front of house and site is clean and tidy
  • Maintaining compound areas
  • Assisting with portering duties in the absence of the Hospital Porter
  • Assisting with high level housekeeping cleaning tasks i.e. dusting, cleaning vents, fixtures and fittings and hanging/removing window dressing
  • Providing general minor maintenance i.e. changing light bulbs, installing/repairing soap and hand towel dispensers
  • Unloading stock deliveries to the stores
  • Escorting external contractors i.e. window cleaners, deep cleaning companies
  • Ensuring that all equipment and cleaning materials are used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and stored correctly after use
  • Conducting ad-hoc tasks as and when required



To be successful as a Housekeeping Handy Person you’ll need:


  • A full UK driving licence
  • A knowledge of DIY
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • To be self-motivated, organised, flexible and helpful with a can do attitude
  • To be friendly and polite with the ability to work alone and as part of a team
  • To set a professional example of work methods, personal presentation, time keeping and flexibility
  • Abide by the legal requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, particularly in respect to assuming responsibility not only for your own Health and Safety and Welfare but for that of all others including residents, colleagues, visitors / members of the public and to cooperate with Priory Learning Disability Services to create a safe, healthy and pleasant working environment
  • Undertake statutory, refresher and development training as required
