Job Advert Role Description

Knowing that you’re making a difference to people’s lives is rewarding in itself. But our many roles offer much more than that. As well as helping you grow and develop your talent, we want you to feel proud of where you work and what you do.

The Cloisters is a 25 bedded hospital (currently being extended to 34 beds) set within a peaceful environment on the edge of Newbury. Working in partnership with NHS Trusts, the unit offers inpatient individualised treatment and rehabilitation to patients who have mental health problems and require support to increase their recovery and independence with a view to enabling them to leave the hospital and live in varying levels of supported living accommodation.

We are looking to recruit dynamic person(s) to join our Occupational Therapist team. The successful candidate(s) will provide support and facilitate individual and group sessions to our patients who have long and enduring mental illnesses; working collaboratively with individuals to promote their recovery and enhance their social inclusion. The role will have a significant social and recreational element which will require the development of therapeutic relationships with some out of hours and weekend working. You will assist our Occupational Therapist, Healthcare Assistants and Nurses in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individual care plans.

The successful candidate(s) will have excellent listening, communication and report writing skills. You will be motivated, highly reliable and able to work within an emotionally demanding environment. You will be able to demonstrate a positive, creative and an imaginative approach to problem solving. It is desirable that you will have relevant experience within mental health and have level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care or equivalent. This role involves working on an allotment with our patients and taking them in to the community and on rehabilitation trips. It is  therefore essential that the post holder is willing to drive our hospital vehicles and satisfies the requirements of the Company's driving policy, details of which will be discussed during recruitment.

This is a full time post of 37.5 hours per week worked over four week days and one weekend day, including bank holidays when required and at times outside the normal office hours. Due to being an all-male hospital and the current staff team, male applicants will be given preference.

We are willing to consider a job share and recruit two candidates, one to work during the week and one on a weekend.

Benefits of working for us include the equivalent of 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays and birthday leave, contributory pension scheme, comprehensive induction programme and computerised training programme, on-going access to supervision and access to occupational health services. We have an excellent team and offer a very good working environment with an ever evolving service where ideas and innovation are welcome and are integral to the development of the service.

For an informal discussion please contact Trudi Pheasant at or on 01635 277230.

Closing date for applications is 28th August 2019

Please note that we reserve the right to close the advert earlier if a good number of suitable applications are received before the closing date.
