Ellingham Hospital CAMHS-LD Consultant Psychiatrist and Medical Director Role

Job Role:

We are seeking an experienced consultant psychiatrist with expertise in caring for children and adolescents with learning difficulties in our Tier 4 inpatient service. This is a full time role working 37.5 hours per week holding Responsible Clinician duties for inpatients. It is supported by a full time speciality doctor and multidisciplinary team. The post has a 2nd on call medical rota, support by speciality doctors who provide the first on call cover. There are no out patient commitments.

The post includes Medical Directorship of the Hospital. The Medical Director role is an exciting opportunity to combine clinical work with shaping the service at Ellingham Hospital into the future. This part of the role includes:

·         Providing medical leadership at the hospital, working very closely with senior management team colleagues at site, and also regionally.

·         You will be key to developing clinical models and providing an agile, responsive service to changing psychiatric healthcare demand from our partners in NHS England and beyond.

Key Skills

•           Good communication, management and leadership skills, experience in developing a quality service

•           Ensuring effective liaison with the referrals team to enable you to review referrals and determine appropriateness for admissions

•           Conducting admissions assessments, risk assessments, reviews and ensuring effective care and management plans for all patients within the unit.

•           Allocating specialist psychological treatments, in line with individual needs and assessing physical health, taking special responsibility for medical issues

•           Supporting and working in collaboration with other colleagues involved in patient care

•           Facilitating regular Individual Care Review, Safety and Risk Assessment and Professional meetings

•           Acting as Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act

•           Involvement in clinical governance standards, CAMHS standards, Priory CAMHS  Clinical Network and monitoring the delivery of a quality service

•           Adhering to Government Guidance, Priory Polices and Good Practice Guidelines in relation to pharmacological and psychological interventions.


Role Requirements:

•           MRCPsych qualification or equivalent

•           CCT in CAMHS or LD psychiatry and experienced in working with children and adolescents.

•           Eligible for inclusion on the Register of the General Medical Council (GMC)

•           Approved under section 12(2) of the MHA 1983 (2007)

•           Have Approved Clinician status under the MHA 1983 / is eligible to work as a Responsible Clinician

•           Up-to-date knowledge in the field of CAMHS and LD, including physical health, mental health and social-systemic factors.

•           Experience of working in an inpatient CAMHS setting, working with children who have behavioural, cognitive and neuro-developmental disorders, traumatic stress and psychosis and with patients detained under the MHA.

•           Awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy and legislation.

•           The drive to learn and develop, lead and manage

•           A commitment to patient-centred care and to values-based and evidence based practice

•           A flexible, positive, team-orientated approach.
