Job Advert Role Description

Our Children’s Home situated in Hereford is seeking a permanent full-time Deputy Manager. Under the direction of the Registered House Manager, you will effectively lead the team of support workers and enable the delivery of care and education to all the students and young people. You will effectively guide and manage the team and ensure that the service complies with local procedures and corporate policy, statutory regulations and quality standards.

As a Deputy Manager of our home in Herefordshire you will provide residential care for boys and girls aged 10 to 19 who may present with mild spectrum learning difficulties and associated complex learning needs and challenging behaviours. Our teams work cohesively with our own and external education providers to ensure all needs are met and young people are achieving and working toward positive outcomes.

You will assist them with their daily lives. This could be in the form of helping the young person at School, accompanying them take part in an activity or simply assisting them in completion of general daily tasks, including morning and night time routines.

Our aim is to bring about the best in every young person to enable them to achieve positive experiences and progress according to their own individual abilities. The desired outcome is for young people to achieve success in accredited qualifications and to gain increased levels of independence to enable them to maximise their strengths, abilities and ambitions.

Our Deputy Manager roles in Hereford offer a salary of up to £23,112 per annum.


As a Deputy Manager, you’ll be doing the following:

  • Day to day care and support of our children & young people
  • Administrative duties; report writing and comprehensive assessments including Care plans, behaviour plans, risk assessment, daily observations, monthly/Review reports, absence & incident records
  • Health & Safety recording
  • Homes internal monitoring and auditing
  • Supervision, training and development of staff teams
  • Understanding and delivery of Regulatory Requirements and expectations
  • Attending and leading meetings within the home and with external agencies associated with the care of our young people
  • Effective multi-agency working
  • Robust understanding of Safeguarding and child protection
  • Financial viability and handling of site funds

  • Strong " can do" attitude.
  • NVQ /Diploma L3 Health & Social Care/Children's Residential homes is essential.
  • NVQ /Diploma L5 Leadership and Management for residential child care is not essential and training will be offered to complete this.
  • Relevant experience in a children's residential child care setting is essential and experience of leading teams/individuals in a supervisory capacity is preferred however not essential where there is sustained experience in shift leading and planning.

Due to the rural location of the Home in Herefordshire, you would need to be a driver and have your own car.


As a Deputy Manager in our home you should be happy to work a shift rota system. Set working pattern 8-11 shifts including weekday and weekend working.  In the absence of the Registered Manager working Monday-Friday 9-5pm.
