Job Advert Role Description

Seeking a School Kitchen Assistant. As a assistant cook will assist with the preparation, cooking and presentation of the food. There will also be some administrative tasks to ensure that relevant paperwork for the kitchen is kept up to date and that all health and safety legislation is adhered to. The successful Kitchen Assistant will work closely with and be directed by the School Cook.

Hours: 20 hours a week. 9 am until 1 pm Monday to Friday - term time only.

Oliver House School is an independent school, which is part of the Priory Group. The school currently caters for between 20-30  young people with autism and challenging behaviour  (ages 7-19 ) in the dining room and approximately 40 staff per day.

Currently all of the young people have a hot meal offering with a range of dietary requirements .The successful candidate will have experience/knowledge of catering for vegan, dairy free, nut free, vegetarian and Halal diets.

We are looking for someone with a friendly approach as you will be main point of contact for the young people and staff during service, You must be able work well under pressure and be able to follow instruction accurately regarding dietary requirements .  It is important you are flexible and can adapt to the needs of the young people. The successful candidate will have a can do attitude to the role with a focus that the young people’s needs come first.

The ideal candidate will have:

•          Up-to-date knowledge and understanding of food hygiene requirements

•          Some previous experience of working in a catering environment.

•          An understanding of health and safety at work, particularly with regard to catering

•          Experience serving meals for large groups in a pressured environment.

•          Knowledge of food allergies and special dietary requirements

For all roles we require a minimum of two references.  References provided must cover the last 3 years, or you are applying to work within our Children’s Homes we will need to request all references from where you have worked with either Children or Vulnerable Adults.
