Job Advert Role Description

We are seeking experienced Learning Support Workers to provide one-to-one input, pastoral care and academic support to our learners from Entry level functional skills up to A Level's on a range of topics.

The Priory College Swindon opened in September 2004 to support, care and educate post-16 year olds who predominately had a diagnosis of ASD and Asperger’s Syndrome (AS).  Since opening, the College has worked with an increasingly diverse cohort, including students who do not necessarily have a formal diagnosis of ASD but who have significant social and communication difficulties, co-morbid diagnosis and other complex conditions. 

We provide every young person with an individually tailored programme of education, care, work experience, life skills and training within the community.  Our approach enables young people to develop the confidence and skills they need to progress towards adulthood, including further or higher education. 

Experience of working with young people with ASD and complex mental health problems would be beneficial, with the ability to work in a flexible manner to adapt to individual students needs is essential

As a Learning Support Worker, you'll be involved with the following:-

  • An element of report writing will be required as part of this role
  • Providing high levels of organisational skills, reliability and basic IT skills
  • Supporting our learners with the correct level of guidance specified by the tutor, whilst encouraging them towards independence and accepting responsibility for their own behaviour
  • Establishing a good relationship with learners by using language and other communication skills that the learners can understand and relate to
  • Promoting positive learner behaviour in line with school policies by the use of praise and encouragement
  • Contributing towards termly reports; annual reviews for learners and developing individual learning plans
  • To be able to develop SMART targets and outcomes for learners based around their education and learning needs.
  • To help, support and provide with enrichment activities for learners.
