Positive Behaviour Support - Practitioner


Primarily North West of England, at times may be required to work across other regions, which may require overnight stays. Based from Home. 

The post holder will implement the Priory Adult Care PBS strategy across the North West, creating capable environments that improve wellbeing and quality of life for the people we support, whilst reducing the persons need to present challenging behaviour and the use of restrictive interventions.

The post holder will use their expertise to support predominantly in the following areas:

  • Staff training & development
  • Functional Behaviour Assessment
  • Behaviour Support Planning (BSP)
  • BSP implementation (including practice workshops)
  • Incident analysis & debrief
  • Meetings and supervision
  • MDT Support
  • Providing advice and recommendations to services regarding support planning, service development and legal frameworks.
  • To facilitate Person Centred Review meetings.


The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold, or be working towards a formal qualification in: or Positive Behaviour Support i.e. PBS BTEC (advanced professional Diploma), BSc in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, MSc in Analysis and Intervention in Learning Disability, Applied Behaviour Analysis, Psychology. Board associate Certified Behaviour Analyst status is desirable, NOT essential
  • Hold Physical Intervention Training approved under the British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD) accreditation scheme to at least Instructor level (preferably PROACT SCIPr-UK)
  • A full drivers’ licence is essential.

In addition, the candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • A history of direct support experience with adults with learning disabilities and/or ASC with complex behavioural support needs (At least two years).
  • A history in conducting assessment and developing, implementing and evaluating interventions for individuals presenting with Challenging Behaviour/s
  • A history of development and delivery of Positive Behaviour Support training
  • A history of working as part of a peripatetic team providing consultation to services that provide support to individuals with complex behavioural support needs.
  • A history of reducing the use of restrictive practices whilst improving the quality of life for individuals.
