Knowing that you’re making a difference to people’s lives is rewarding in itself. But our many roles offer much more than that. As well as helping you grow and develop your talent, we want you to feel proud of where you work and what you do.

Job Advert Location Description

Set in the leafy suburb of Edgbaston, close to Birmingham City centre, Priory Hospital Woodbourne is conveniently located for access to the West Midlands motorway network and with very good local public transport links.

The hospital provides a diverse range of inpatient services, including acute and psychiatric intensive care for adults aged 18-25 years, Child and Adolescent Mental Health, specialist Eating Disorder (including day care) and private acute and addictions treatment programmes.  With 78 beds across 7 wards, our multi-disciplinary teams deliver personalised treatment programmes to our patients and have established an excellent reputation for providing the highest standards of care.

Job Advert Role Description

We are looking to recruit members of the public to become Mental Health Act Review Managers from the Birmingham and the surrounding areas.

These are voluntary, lay people who oversee hearings to review the care, treatment and detention of patients who are detained under the Mental Health Act (MHA), in relation to section renewals, appeals and barring orders.

They decide, based upon written and oral evidence from healthcare professionals, if the patient can be discharged from their section of the MHA.

Mental Health Act Review Managers do not require any specific skills or qualifications as full training will be provided, however absolute confidentiality is essential and an interest in mental health issues and good communication skills are desirable. Relevant experience will also be taken into account.

The role will be based on a ad-hoc basis. A sessional fee of £66 plus reasonable travelling expenses will be paid.
