Job Advert Location Description

The Cloisters is a 25 bedded hospital set within a peaceful environment on the edge of Newbury. Working in partnership with Berkshire NHS Trust, the unit offers inpatient individualised treatment and rehabilitation to patients who have mental health problems and require support to increase their recovery and independence with a view to enabling them to leave the hospital and live in varying levels of supported living accommodation.


Job Advert Role Description

We are looking to recruit a motivated, flexible and reliable Consultant Rehabilitation Psychiatrist to join our team.


Responsibilities include leading weekly ward rounds, running CPAs, assessing new referrals, attending Managers’ Hearings and Tribunals, providing supervision to the Specialty Doctor and also medical leadership to the Hospital. The successful candidate will support a group of Priory Hospitals on a 1:6 rotation and be expected to be available to respond to call outs within 1 hour of normal work hours or 3 hours out of hours. One of the sites covered, may require you to attend seclusion reviews as part of the on-call duties.


The successful candidate will be Responsible Clinician caring for a caseload across the hospital which currently has two wards, an 8 bedded higher dependency ward and a 17 bed rehab ward. They will lead a Multi-Disciplinary Team and work in close liaison with the referring agencies. The role includes teaching and supervision of medical and clinical staff. The Consultant will be supported by a Specialty Doctor and receive supervision from the Medical Director who is based at another Priory Hospital. Rehab and Recovery provision within Priory Healthcare is supported by a Clinical Network which provides support and guidance to the team and facilitates meetings; therefore, the successful candidate will be expected to attend some of the meetings off site.


Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register or be within three months of registration and also hold the Approved Clinician status.

All medical staff are members of the Hospital Medical Advisory Committee.
