Job Advert Location Description

The Cloisters is a 25 bedded hospital set within a peaceful environment on the edge of Newbury. Working in partnership with Berkshire NHS Trust, the unit offers inpatient individualised treatment and rehabilitation to patients who have mental health problems and require support to increase their recovery and independence with a view to enabling them to leave the hospital and live in varying levels of supported living accommodation.


Job Advert Role Description

The Cloisters is a 25 bedded rehabilitation and recovery hospital, set within a peaceful environment on the edge of Newbury. The hospital offers in-patient rehabilitation services to people with enduring mental health illnesses and require longer hospital stays than provided in an acute ward. Our aim is to support with the development of independent living skills to enable them to move into community based accommodation or supported living.


We are looking to recruit a motivated and dynamic individual to cover maternity leave as a Specialty Doctor for a period of up to one year. The successful candidate will be a member of the multidisciplinary team and be accountable to the consultant psychiatrist to ensure all the patients receive a holistic and person-centred treatment programme.


Responsibilities will include:


Day to day responsibilities for medical management
Work closely with the GP
Take bloods for Clozapine and other investigations
Receiving blood results and taking appropriate actions including chasing if required
Lead on some CPA meetings
Assist the Consultant with preparation and production of reports
Attend some MHA Managers Hearings
Assessing new referrals and producing reports
Professional communication with patients families, care-coordinators and commissioners
Facilitate training on site to junior staff and support colleagues with induction of new starters.
Attend training as required which may be off site

They will have good communication skills as the role involves communication with patients, GPs, CMHTs, Care Coordinators, patients’ relatives etc. It is essential that they have experience working in mental health and it will be an added advantage if they have experience in rehabilitation setting. The consultant on site is part time so the successful candidate will provide medical cover in their absence.
