255 Lichfield Road is an Independent Community Facing Rehabilitation and Recovery Unit which proivdes services for men and women over the age of 18.  Service Users may be admitted Informally or detained under the Mental Health Act.  We aim to provide opportunities for our Service Users to practice independent living, by helping them build the skills and confidence needed to successfully live in the community.


The unit comprises of 28 beds and accommodation includes

•           Two 4-bedded enhanced recovery and rehabilitation units for people who require a structured environment with intensive support to progress through their recovery pathway

•           20 self-contained apartments that enable residents to live independently, whilst having the safety of a therapeutic structure if needed

•           Each apartment has its own front door, a lounge and kitchenette, bedroom and a bathroom

•           24-hour support as required

•           Dedicated occupational therapy facility to promote independent living skills

•           Therapy and treatment areas, safe and private grounds and a family visiting room

•           Communal bistro and kitchen

Job Advert Role Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic individual to join our team. As a Senior Occupational Therapist you will have considerable relevant experience in a mental health setting, preferably within secure or locked environments and work in a recovery focused way. You will have a professional approach to your work – which should be both evidence based and embrace MDT team working, as well as awareness of current legislation influencing occupational therapy practice in a forensic setting.  The successful applicant will be HCPC registered and will hold BSc Occupational Therapy or profession specific equivalent qualification.

If successful, you will provide specialist interventions to an identified patient group using resources and facilities both within the hospital and also in the community for those patients with section 17 leave. You will actively contribute to the on-going development of the service and engage in the regular practice development / CPD / reflective practice meetings. You will use your experience of group work to assist in the delivery of the treatment group programmes. You be responsible for the regular formal supervision of junior staff.

 Key responsibilities:

•To provide occupational therapy assessment and treatment to enable service users to achieve their maximum levels of functional independence and to enhance their sense of well-being through engagement in occupation.

•To implement a Recovery based approach.

•To have a working knowledge of a range of assessment tools suitable for the allocated clinical area.

•To devise and deliver a review of treatment plans including individual and group interventions.

•To identify and assess potential in the community, to assess, identify and manage the risks posed by occupations on/off the wards.

•Assess and provide environmental adaptations to facilitate daily living.

•Working with the MDT/TDT devise treatment plans, contribute to ICRs and External CPAs, including writing reports as needed.

•To adhere to HCPC and COT Practice Guidelines.

•To provide comprehensive initial and continuing occupational therapy assessments, according to agreed model and in accordance with CPA guidelines and service user care plans.

•To liaise closely with other members of the clinical team, demonstrating a commitment to effective team work.

•To ensure contemporaneous, written and electronic record and activity data are maintained in accordance with professional and service standards.
