Llanarth Court Hospital is a 114 bedded forensic hospital providing a multi disciplianry service in  low, medium and open rehabilitation settings.

Job Advert Role Description

We have an exciting opportunity for two enthusiastic and motivated occupational therapists with experience in mental health/ forensic sector, to join our team at Llanarth Court.


Llanarth Court Hospital is a purpose built medium / low secure hospital caring for men and women with high levels of challenging behaviours, personality disorder, learning disability and complex forensic histories.


Our Occupational Therapists enable service users to adapt to any aspect of their life with more independence, confidence and control.


Considering the service user’s own views carefully, you will assess their abilities to perform activities and design treatment programmes to increase their capability to tackle difficulties and progress within their recovery pathway.


Using the MOHO framework, you will undertake OT assessments, interventions and evaluations for a designated caseload. You will work closely with the other OT's on site and form part of a multi-disciplinary team within your ward. You will be asked to facilitate a flexible programme of OT groups and individual interventions as part of our tiered integrated group programme.


You must have good personal organisational skills and effective communication skills.


You will have a current HPC registration and full BAOT membership with evidence of continuing professional development.


Core clinical roles:

Conduct / contribute to the assessment process, as well as the observation and ongoing assessment, providing accurate and timely feedback.

Participate in the planning, implementation / evaluation and ongoing review of treatment plans.

Organise and deliver therapeutic activities for service users.

Assess service users’ response to activities in accordance with agreed models of practice e.g. MOHO.

Provide practical support, advice and education to service users, carers and other disciplines.

Responsible for the recording of all patient related activity information.

Produce accurate and timely documentation on all clients in line with your Professional Code of Conduct and organisational policies.

Carry out risk assessments including any potential hazards in the service users environment.

Attend multi-disciplinary meetings i.e. referral / review / business / CTP / CPA and weekly ward rounds.

Report and document incidents as required.

Facilitate and support in group work such as relaxation, health promotion.

Be competent in use of relevant screening and assessment tools

Participate in the continuing development of a high quality service that is underpinned by evidence based practice, care pathways / packages, NICE and DH guidance

Participate in research where appropriate and contribute to the development of service policies.


Core Non-Clinical Roles:

Promote Occupational Therapy within the service

Take part in service development and Occupational Therapy pathway within the Hospital.

Take part in the recruitment process of other staff as required, supported by the senior staff.

Ensure the service meets the agreed performance / contractual targets and adheres to local and government initiatives

Deliver training where appropriate for other professionals
