Job Advert Location Description

Ellingham hospital is a 35 bedded hospital offering assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to young people within the age range of 12 to 25 years old.

Cherry oak ward is a low secure 10 bedded mixed unit and caters specifically to the needs of young people who are experiencing significant mental health difficulties and also demonstrate some level of functional impairment, which may be attributable to a learning disability, a neurodevelopmental diagnosis (e.g. autism, ADHD).

Woodlands is a  15 beds adolescent mixed ward catering specifically for young people who are experiencing significant mental health difficulties and also demonstrate some level of functional impairment, which may be attributable to a learning disability, a neurodevelopmental diagnosis (e.g. autism, ADHD), or another neurological issue (e.g. brain injury). 

Redwood ward is a 10 bedded ward for adult age 18 + with an acute mental health problem. The hospital is supported by a robust multi-disciplinary team of professionals including psychiatrist, psychologist speech & language therapist, Occupational therapist, nurses, social worker and a family therapist. There is also an Ofsted registered school on site supporting the young people with their education.

Job Advert Role Description

Providing good quality treatment and care for our patients under supervision of Consultant Psychiatrists.

  • Taking a lead in physical health care of the patients in the assessment and management of acute or long term physical health conditions. 
  • Providing relevant physical and mental health summaries for MDT meetings
  • Under the supervision of the Consultant, providing leadership to the clinical team, which would include attending and/or chair clinical team meetings, ward rounds, MDR meetings, case conferences and Mental Health Tribunal hearings as and when necessary. 
  • Taking personal responsibility for ensuring the work practices and the environment meet the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work legislation and reporting all deficits to management. 
  • Ensuring positive relationships are maintained within  a team and with all our stakeholders, CCGs.
  • Under supervision, providing some reports (Mental Health Tribunals / CPA etc.) within agreed timeframes. 
  • Attending regular medical supervision with the Consultant Psychiatrist. 
  • Facilitating and supporting the Clinical Quality Assurance and Clinical Audit programmes ensuring consistency within the service.
  • Assisting the medical team in hospital in contributing to Clinical Governance in conjunction with the local Clinical Governance team. 
  • Ensuring professional policy and practice and their application is of a high standard across the hospital. 
  • Practising in continuous professional development as laid out by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  • Attending regular professional supervision and accessing appropriate professional development opportunities. 

To be successful as Associate Specialist, you'll need:


  • Psychiatry qualification desirable
  • Experience in psychiatry preferable
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Act preferable
  • Section 12 (2) approval desired
