Job Advert Location Description

With over 100 high quality schools, colleges and homes we focus on making a real and lasting difference for everyone we support.

Job Advert Role Description

Rossendale School is essentially a day School, we fully recognise that for a number of our pupils their wider educational, social and emotional needs cannot be met simply on a daily basis.  Hence the provision of weekly boarding accommodation in family type settings.   It is important that these young people have a home base (not necessarily with their natural family) to which they can return each Friday.  It is an important aspect of the School’s beliefs that we form an effective partnership with the young person’s family or carers and work closely with them to bring about a successful reintegration of the young person to their home.  It is for this reason that each pupil is allocated a Keyworker from the Care Staff Team who will work on a 1-1 basis with the young person, usually outside of class time and liaise regularly with family or carers.

Following the material change all residential pupils live off-site. There are two off-site cottages in Rawtenstall and a detached house in Newchurch, which provide accommodation for pupils.  All the accommodation is both warm and caring, yet provides structure and security, as well as offering opportunities for learning and personal development.

Rossendale is a school catering for the needs of pupils who display social, emotional and mental health difficulties and whose learning disability may be affected by an Autism Spectrum Disorder. All pupils have a draft or final Education, Health and Care Plan.

Given the disrupted nature of our pupils’ education, prior to their admission to Rossendale, we have had some outstanding examination results.  The school admits boys and girls on both daily and residential placements.

The post is required to replace a long standing member of staff who has recently retired.  The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Head of Care.

The successful candidate will be expected to ensure that pupils’ special educational needs are being addressed, having due regard for the School's philosophy and policies.  The post holder will be expected to meet individual needs and ensure that all pupils achieve their academic potential.

Rossendale School has an excellent staff team who are enthusiastic and supportive. If you have experience of working with young people in a school setting, are flexible, imaginative and enthusiastic we would be pleased to hear from you.  Experience of working in a specialist school is not essential as the school runs its own extensive training programme.

Rossendale School was judged to be 'Outstanding' in all areas by Ofsted.

Any candidates shortlisted will be invited to attend a informal interview day and if successful at this stage, a formal interview the day after.

This post is a full time post  to provide specific learning support for children aged 8-18 years who have complex social, emotional and behavioural difficulties with associated autism spectrum conditions

If you have a minimum of 2 years' experience of working with young people, have a Diploma Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent), are flexible, imaginative and enthusiastic we would be pleased to hear from you.  Experience of working in a special school is not essential as the school runs its own extensive training programme.

You will need to have held a full driving licence for at least 3 years.
