Our Children’s Home situated in Penarth, Wales are seeking a permanent Full-Time Residential Support Worker. Our children's home in Penarth is a 4 bedded service for young people, currently we support 4 young people between the ages of 13 and 15. The young people placed all attend fulltime education which is supported via the home. The young people have a background of EBD, challenging behaviour and/or ASD. The home seeks to provide a safe and understanding ethos in which the young person can be assisted to address their behaviours and to take responsibility for their own actions. The emphasis of the work is by way of intervention and to challenge the inappropriate behaviour through a holistic therapeutic approach. As a member of our team, you’ll help in supporting and inspiring our young people whilst we support you to learn and gain qualifications within care.

Our Support Worker roles in Penarth offer a salary of up £17,100 per annum plus £35 nightly sleep in allowance. 

Duties

As a Support Worker, you’ll be doing the following:

  • Be the young person’s champion and as part of the wider team strive to ensure that they achieve their aspirations and full potential
  • Manage the well-being and behaviour of young people ensuring behaviour's are addressed promptly and sensitively
  • Assist senior staff with the writing and maintaining of placement and risk management plans
  • Support young people in daily activities including family contact, attending local clubs, 1:1 activities in the community, promoting independence and social behaviour
  • You will be assigned a key child and play a pivotal role in their day to day life including attending reviews and liaising with external agencies
  • Support and encourage educational engagement

Level 3 Residential Childcare qualification is desirable but not essential for this role (we can support with the training of this.) Successful applicants will ideally have previous experience of working with young people with challenging behaviour. 

Due to the location of the Home near Penarth -Wales, you would need to be a driver and have your own car.

Hours

A family is 24/7 and so are we. We use a rota system to ensure the young people in our home get the care they need. As a Support Worker in our home you should be happy to work a shift rota system that includes working some weekends and bank holidays. We have long shifts at this home of 13 hours, 24 hours and 48 hours (with sleep ins attached), which means you will work a few long days in a week and have the rest of the time to yourself.
