The Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal is a specialist provider of complex mental health services, providing clinical excellence across 11 wards which include a speciality eating disorder service, CAMHS, rehabilitation, acute and PICU services.

Job Advert Role Description

As a result of continuing service developments, we are looking to appoint speciality grade doctors to our bank for on-call duties at Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal and also to our sister site, Priory Hospital Romiley and Priory Park Villa.

With almost 150  inpatient beds across 12 wards, Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal offers a comprehensive specialist mental health service for young people and adults and is an important contributor to NHS mental health services in the North West and further afield. Priory Group’s relentless focus on quality improvement, combined with Cheadle Royal’s rich history of patient-focussed care has resulted in the hospital being rated as Good by the CQC.  Our wards deliver care across the following service lines: adult acute & PICU, adult rehabilitation & recovery, CAMHS and a specialist eating disorder service.

This is an exciting opportunity for speciality grade doctors (Mental Health) to join our on call bank, for first tier on call; in addition to our first tier rota (which is covered by bank and substantive colleagues), there is a second tier of on call provided by our substantive adult and CAMHS consultant psychiatrists.


Key Accountabilities include:

•Management of admissions out of hours, including undertaking risk assessments, MDT liaison, outcome measurements.

•Prompt mental health assessments, reports and clinical summaries. The post holder must have proficient ICT skills to use our electronic records system (Care notes) and produce reports.

•To cover the hospital as first on call for the site based on site  for all our units .

• To review patients on admissions, cover any psychiatric emergencies and work with the nursing team.

•To clerk patients on admission including a full physical examinations, bloods and ECG

•To complete prescriptions cards

•To review patient with any urgent physical health needs , liaise with the hospital team and general hospital if they require transfer to medical wards

•To conduct seclusions reviews as per the hospital policy which is in line with the MHA code of practice

•To liaise with consultants and seeks support if any doubts


Successful candidates will need to hold a medical degree (MB ChB or equivalent), full GMC registration with licence to practice and a minimum of one year's experience in mental health.
